Guilin travel story the legend of the Leipi Mountain

There are many mountains in Guilin and most of them are very famous in all the interests in Guilin travel. Almost every mountain has a story about how it came or how its name came up; one of the stories is the legend of the Leipi Mountain.There was a village behind the Reed Flute Cave. Every year people would have a rich harvest in the autumn and then celebrated by making pomelo lights. One year, the Thunder God saw the harmony and quite envied, so he decided to cut off their water source---- rain.From then on it had not rained again for three years. The land all became very dry and cracked. People had nothing to eat, so some of them moved out, and the others could only eat barks and gr roots.There was an eighteen-year-old girl in the village whose parents died early. Once she went to find food with other villagers and accidentally dug out several loaches from mud. She found that the loaches could easily burrow under the soil and water came out from the they created, she thought it would be great that if she was a loach, so that she could burrow to the river and bring water here.She kept wishing to become a loach day and night. One night, she really turned into a loach, so she burrowed in the ground all night. The next morning, she resiled and still went to find food with people. Once the night came, she turned to a loach again and continued to burrow under the ground. After several days, she successfully led water to the village through the tunnels she made. People were surprised and also very happy. They resumed farming and finally got a harvest in the autumn again.When the Thunder God came to see how miserable the villagers were, he surprisingly found that nothing was like what he expected. When he knew what the girl did, he was very angry and decided to kill her.This morning, the girl had just turned back to human form and she was so tired from making tunnels under the ground all night so she sat in front of the mountain to have a rest. Just then, she saw the Thunder God running to her with an axe in his hand, she immediately turned into a loach and hid under the ground.This time the Thunder God found the handle of the axe was loose, so he hit the axe to the mountain to get it fixed. But after he did that, the girl had already gone. The mountain that the Thunder God hit his axe on was named “Leipi” Mountain which means a being hit by thunder according to this story, and people can still see the long mark left by the axe on the peak of the mountain.
